The System Has a Name

Two interlocking frameworks for diagnosing how power sustains itself - and what it actually takes to dismantle it.

INTELLECTUAL FRAMEWORK

Most political analysis describes what's happening. This framework explains why it keeps happening — and why attempts to stop it so often fail.

Over twenty years of research across accounting, history, and systems thinking, I developed two frameworks that work together: one for diagnosis, one for design. Neither is comfortable. Both are necessary.

FRAMEWORK ONE

The Subjugation Equation

Every system of sustained oppression - chattel slavery, feudalism, the Irish Famine, contemporary wage extraction - operates on the same three-variable logic. Strip away the ideology, the law, the language, and this is what remains:

Greed + Imposed Caste + Financial Benefit = Subjugation Architecture

THE STRUCTURAL FORMULA FOR SUSTAINED EXTRACTION

Greed

The desire to accumulate beyond reciprocal need. Not individual moral failing — structural incentive built into systems that reward extraction over contribution.

Imposed Caste

A designated class of people whose needs are legitimized as ignorable. Caste is the permission structure. Without it, extraction has no cover.

Financial Benefit

The extractor profits from ignoring the subjugated. Remove the profit motive and the whole equation destabilizes. This is the pressure point.

What makes this framework useful - and unsettling - is what it reveals about why reform so often fails.

“The equation doesn’t collapse under pressure. It redesigns. Every major reform movement in history has produced not the abolition of the system, but a more sophisticated version of it.”

The Magna Carta didin’t end feudalism - it restructured extraction at a higher level of legal sophistication. The Thirteenth Amendment didn’t end racial caste - convict leasing, sharecropping, and redlining were the redesigns. Understanding this pattern is the difference between working toward change and working inside a loop.

WHY REMOVE ALL THREE VARIABLES

Targeting one variable alone produces redesign, not dismantlement. Address greed without dismantling caste and the caste structure absorbs a new extraction mechanism. Challenge caste without eliminating financial benefit and economic incentive finds another permission structure. All three must be addressed simultaneously - which is exactly why serious structural change is rare and why the equation is so durable.

FRAMEWORK TWO

The Integrity Architecture

Diagnosis without design is despair. The second framework addresses the question the first one raises: if the system redesigns every time it’s challenged, what does actual structural change require?

The answer is an inversion - not just of policy, but of incentive. The Integrity Architecture is the structural solution: systems designed to constrain, not eliminate, human impulses toward greed, caste-making, and extraction by making integrity the economically rational choice.

TWO PHASES. TWO DIFFERENT JOBS.

Phase 1 centers white American responsibility for dismantling the internalized supremacy that keeps the equation operational - not through shame, which produces hiding rather than change, but through a clear invitation: do you want to live in a system that requires extraction to function? Phase 1 is about becoming available for coalition.

Phase 2 centers leadership from the communities on the front lines. The design of what comes next belongs to those who have survived what exists now. Phase 2 is not a reward for Phase 1 - it is the condition that makes any solution legitimate.

This is developed at full length in The Subjugation Equation: Restoring American Integrity. The frameworks are the spine of everything - the book, the essays, the policy work, and the long-term project this platform is built around.
